First – “coming before all others in position, rank, or importance.” In the Scriptures, born again believers are taught to put God first in their lives. To put God first means to seek the things of God as a priority over anything else in your life; before family, finances, friends, fun, and even your future. It does not mean that you should neglect the reasonable and daily duties that help sustain life but it does mean that nothing else should be as important nor put before God’s rule over and His righteousness in your life. To determine if God is first in your life, ask yourself a couple of questions. “Where do I primarily spend my energies? And is all my time and money spent on goods and activities or in the services of God? Another way of knowing if God is first in your life is to look at your checkbook and datebook. These two books will tell what is first in your life because they will reveal where your most of your money and time are spent. What is it that comes out on top, God or something else? God doesn’t want a place in your life. God doesn’t even want to be prominent in your life. But God wants to be preeminent in your life. (Matthew 6:33), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
