Success: “the progressive realization and internalization of all that God wants me to be and do.” The world defines success as the gaining of power, prosperity, position, pleasure, and prestige. While these things in and of themselves are not wrong, a person can have all these things and still not be successful from a Biblical perspective. Biblical success is not about results although results should be affected, but Biblical success is about being obedient to Christ and His Word through the Holy Spirit. Success from God’s perspective is not static but progressive in that it deals with the journey and not just the results. God makes it clear that He wants you and me to focus on the roots in our lives, not just the fruit. In other words, let God take care of the results while you focus on doing the right things. You work on what you can control, like your attitudes, your obedience, your thoughts, your words, and let God produce what He will. We cannot generate our own success but if we are faithful to Christ and to His Word, keeping His commands, there is no greater or higher measure of success than this because this is His standards of success. If you follow Him and live according to His standards of success, you will be doing right, and you will be successful in His eyes. That’s the only thing that matters. (Joshua 1:8), “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
