Ordinance – “is derived from the Latin word “ordinare” which means “to put in order or to act by authorization or command.” Ordinances in the Bible are God’s laws, principles, and statutes which He has given, if obeyed, will put in order or set in order the lives of those who obey them. The ordinances of God revealed in the Word of God are the standards by which God intends for all believers to live their lives. God give His ordinances in His Word because these are the “ordinary behaviors of conduct.” Believing and obeying the ordinances of God is “ordinary living” for believers. And as believers learn and submit themselves to the ordinances of God in His Word, God puts their lives in order and they live lives that please and honor God. The result is, God will bless them in this life with joy in their hearts, peace in their minds, the provisions of life, a good testimony, and many more abundant blessings. But God’s blessings upon those who submit to and obey His ordinances do not end with this world but there will be great blessings in the world to come. Any believer who does not submit to and obey the ordinances of God is living a life that is out of order before God and the result will be a loss of God’s blessings upon their lives and the chastening of God in their lives. (II. Kings 13:37a), “And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore…”
