Zeal – “a strong feeling of interest, and enthusiasm that makes someone very eager or determined to do something.” Christian zeal is a burning desire to please God, to do His will, and to advance His glory in the world in every possible way, by making any sacrifice, enduring any trouble, denying anything, suffering, working, laboring, toiling, and spending oneself, even unto death if it pleases and honors God. A zealous Christian is wholehearted and only lives for one thing, the honor and glory of God. True Christian zeal is grounded in a knowledge of God’s Word and obedience to His Will that results in right motives, personal growth in holiness, a desire to see others saved, a hatred for evil, love, humility, and courage to stand for true doctrine. Nothing is so effective in keeping true Christianity alive as the yeast of zealous Christians scattered throughout the Church. Like salt, they prevent the whole body from falling into a state of decay because God delights in honoring zeal and those who have left the deepest and most indelible marks on the Church are those who are zealous for the things of God. (Romans 12:10-11), “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.”
